Each pad contains near to 90 leaves (180 pages) of mixed plain paper stocks, which come in an array of weights and pastel colours.

Stacked high in the corner of a commercial printers, I was once a mountain of surplus quality paper, destined to be recycled — that is until EMBER lovingly made me into this tasty Neapolitan* note pad.

Every single day, commercial printers around the world throw surplus reams of perfectly good paper into the recycling system; which is crazy when you think about it, as it’s only going to be turned into, err, more paper!?

There will always be note pads; but no note pad should ever cost the earth, literally or figuratively! So, who’s responsible for this problem? Is it the printers? Or the companies that order the print? Maybe it’s the designers who help create the goods? Or is it possibly just the end customers?

Ember is here to shine a light on upcycling designer makers who find inventive solutions to material problems. As well as featuring wonderful products at emberind.co.uk, we’re making our very own — with the first being our Neapolitan* Note Pad.

*Whilst collating the reams of surplus paper ready to be cut and bound into these pads, we found the colours reminded us of ‘Neapolitan’ ice-cream — yum.
